Bienvenidos to another exciting 3 Minute Species, our subject today is the Venezuelan Greenbottle Blue Tarantula, here are some neat facts about this gorgeous spider.

The Greenbottle Blue Tarantula (Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens), has some of the most dramatic coloring of any spider species.

Adult greenbottles have metallic blue legs, a blue-green carapace and a vibrant orange abdomen.

They are very active, fast-growing and particularly attractive to tarantula hobbyists.
Natural habitat

These tarantulas are native to the l desert areas of northern Venezuela where they live in burrows under bushes and tree roots in.

They do quite well in temperatures ranging from 75-85, though they can tolerate night drops down to 65.

In captivity they will readily accept crickets, and superworms, in the wild their diet consists of insects, small mammals, and small lizards, pretty much anything.

Behavior
In captivity, this tarantula regularly renews the webbing of its burrow, commonly filling the entire container.

While some individuals are calm and docile, most are not shy and stand quite steadfast in the face of a challenge.

These spiders boast impressive fangs, look as it injects flesh melting venom.

Tarantulas like all spiders digest their food on the outside, turning their prey into a protein soup.

Tarantulas lay webbing down using special organs on the posteriors, these are called 'spinerettes'.

Not only do tarantulas have an impressive set of fangs for defense, at times instead of biting they will opt to kick urticating hairs, like thousands of tiny porcupine quills.
